What happened in Brussels
The World Brewers Cup is the world championship for filter coffee. Each competitor brews for the judges on stage, and the best six go through to the final.
In June 2026 in Brussels, a Slow Feeder Metal made it onto that final stage. Simon Gautherin, the reigning Australian Brewers Cup champion, finished second in the world and posted the highest score of all six finalists in the open service round.
Simon scored 346 in the open service round and 461 overall, eight points behind the winner, Nas Jaafar of Malaysia. Bavis Kwong of Hong Kong SAR placed third, two points behind Simon.
Watching something we built end up in the hands of someone brewing at that level was a big moment for our small team in Winterthur.
Why a slow feeder in a championship routine
Slow feeding means the beans enter the burrs a few at a time instead of all at once. In independent tests, it reduced the share of very fine particles and gave cups with more clarity and sweetness, once the grind was adjusted. On a competition stage, where every point counts, a repeatable grind is part of a repeatable cup.

The setup: Slow Feeder Metal on a Lagom 01
Simon ran the Slow Feeder Metal on an Option-O Lagom 01. The Slow Feeder Metal has a machined aluminium housing, a borosilicate glass bean container, an anti-stall routine and a USB-C rechargeable battery.
A tower, because of the rules
There was one problem: competition rules do not allow attachments mounted directly onto the grinder. Setups next to the grinder, though, are allowed. So we built Simon a free-standing tower that holds the Slow Feeder Metal floating right above the Lagom 01's inlet. The beans still feed slowly and evenly into the burrs, and nothing touches the grinder.
At home you do not need a tower. For the Lagom 01 there is now a machined metal adapter in black or silver, so the feeder sits as solidly on the grinder as the rest of the setup. The same metal adapter is available for the Weber Workshops EG-1.

The Slow Feeder Metal fits more than 40 grinders. It is most popular with the Weber Workshops EG-1, Zerno Z1/Z2, Timemore Sculptor 078, DF64 and DF83, Kafatek Monolith and Lagom P80.
