Build Your Own Slow Feeder: the Slow Feeder Pro V1 Is Now Open Source

You got our Instagram post to 300 likes, so we kept our promise: the Slow Feeder Pro V1 is now open source. Free print files, parts list and build guide, plus an optional kit with all the electronics.

Slow Feeder Pro V1 kit: battery holder, motor, control board and aluminium disc

TL;DR

  • The Slow Feeder Pro V1, our first slow feeder with adjustable speed, is now open source.
  • The printable files, the parts list and the assembly instructions are free.
  • If you would rather not source a dozen small parts, the Pro V1 electronics kit puts them in one box, with an adapter for your grinder.
  • Prefer a finished product? The Slow Feeder Pro V2 comes fully built.

A promise on Instagram

We made a deal on Instagram: get the post to 300 likes and we would open-source the Slow Feeder Pro V1. You did it, so here it is.

The Pro V1 launched in spring 2025 as our first slow feeder with an adjustable feed rate. A dial lets you set how fast the beans go into the grinder, from about 18 g in 30 seconds to 18 g in 120 seconds. We always thought everybody should be able to build one.

It also brought swappable bottom adapters, so one feeder can move between grinders in seconds, twice the runtime of our original slow feeder from the same 2 × AAA batteries, and compatibility with an optional single dose bellow for low retention.

What you need

  • A 3D printer to print the body and the bean container.
  • The free print files from our MakerWorld profile.
  • The electronic parts: motor, control board with speed dial, battery holder and the disc hardware. The full list is on our DIY build page.
  • A grinder adapter for your grinder. MakerWorld has two editable adapter templates, an outside-fit and an inside-fit version, that you can size to your grinder and print yourself.

Two ways to start

Source everything yourself

Download the print files, follow the parts list and the assembly instructions, and build it on your own bench. Everything you need to know is free.

Not everyone wants to source and wire a dozen small parts. The Pro V1 electronics kit puts the parts you cannot easily make at home in one box. Choose your grinder and we match the adapter, or pick the kit without adapter if you print your own.

How the build works

  1. Get the parts: order the kit, or source them from the parts list.
  2. Print the body, bean container and adapter from the MakerWorld files.
  3. Assemble along with the build video and instructions.
  4. Fit it to your grinder, dial in the speed and start feeding.

Would you rather have it ready to use?

The Pro V1 kit is for makers. If you would rather skip the printing and assembly, the Slow Feeder Pro V2 comes fully built, with the anti-stall routine and the aluminium feeder disc from the Slow Feeder Ultra, and a USB-C rechargeable battery. It is most popular with the DF64 and DF83, Timemore Sculptor 078, Weber Workshops EG-1, DF54 and DF64V, and Fellow Ode.

Frequently asked questions

Are the files really free?

Yes. The print files, parts list and assembly instructions are free to download.

Do I need the kit?

No. The kit only saves you sourcing the electronic parts one by one. You can buy them yourself from the parts list.

My grinder is not listed. Can I still build one?

Yes. Use the editable adapter templates on MakerWorld to size an adapter to your grinder, or order a ready-made adapter from us.

What is the difference between the Pro V1 and the Pro V2?

The Pro V1 has a manual speed dial and runs on 2 × AAA batteries. The Pro V2 uses the internals of the Slow Feeder Ultra: an automatic anti-stall routine, an aluminium feeder disc, a variable feed rate of 25 g in roughly 60 to 120 seconds and a built-in 2000 mAh battery that charges over USB-C.
